Henna is the brow treatment clients choose when a tint alone is not enough. Because the pigment stains the skin beneath the hair as well as the hair itself, sparse areas read as filled in and the shape stays visible for longer, which makes it an easy upgrade to sell alongside a standard brow appointment.
The course is delivered entirely online. Victoria demonstrates the mixing, mapping, application and removal in step-by-step video lessons, and you work through the theory and practise on your own models in your own time, submitting your work for tutor feedback as you go.
Most therapists offer henna next to a standard brow service so clients can choose between them — Eyebrow Definition covers tinting, waxing and threading for that. Brow Lamination is the natural third option, and the two are often booked together.
You need henna in a range of shades, mixing pots and brushes, a barrier product to protect the surrounding skin, mapping string and the usual consultation and hygiene supplies. Our Henna Brow Kit gathers these in one order. It is optional — if you already stock henna you are happy with, use that.
There are 28 units across four modules, five of them on henna itself. The practical side takes longer than the reading, largely because development and removal timings vary with shade and skin type, so you will want several models before you settle on your own timings. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months.
Entirely online, with step-by-step video lessons demonstrated by Victoria. Mixing and removal are the two stages worth watching more than once, since both affect how evenly the skin takes the stain. You arrange your own models for the practical work.
All 28 units are assessed, with unlimited resubmissions. For the henna module the assessment centres on shade selection and mapping — the two decisions that determine whether the finished brow suits the client, because the skin stain cannot be adjusted once it has taken.
Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT. The certificate is recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers set their own requirements, so confirm what yours needs before you start taking bookings.
No. The Henna Brow Kit is the convenient option, but any professional henna system will do. What matters is having more than one shade available so you can practise matching.
No. The Skin Healthcare module covers skin types and skin disorders before you go near a stain that sits on the skin, which matters more for henna than for a standard tint — you need to recognise when the skin is not suitable.
The Foundation module’s 12 units cover business promotion, promoting products and services, reception duties, retail legislation and taking payments. Henna is usually sold as the upgrade option at the point of booking, so the promotion and retail units are the ones most worth reading closely.
Tutor feedback on every assessment, our private student group, and lifetime access to the materials — useful when a new henna brand lands and you want to re-check your mixing and timing units.
Your diploma is issued by Next Step Beauty and carries accreditation from the bodies below. Those accreditations are what insurers look for when you come to arrange cover.
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria Arpels
Founder and Head of Training
Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.

Henna tints the brow hair and stains the skin underneath, so the shape reads fuller and holds longer than a standard tint. This course takes you from mixing and shade selection through mapping, application and removal, studied online at your own pace with tutor feedback on your practical work.
