Hydradermabrasion is the gentler face of machine resurfacing. Because it works wet, it can be used on skin that would flush after a dry treatment, which widens the range of clients you can take. It also photographs well immediately afterwards, which matters more than it should for a treatment people hear about online.
This is the broadest of our single-treatment skin courses at nine treatment units. Alongside hydradermabrasion itself it covers the ultrasonic skin scrubber and radio frequency skin tightening, the serums and gels used through the treatment, full treatment protocols and pre and post care. With Foundation, Anatomy and Physiology and Skin Healthcare behind it, that is 32 units in total.
If you already offer microdermabrasion, hydradermabrasion is the obvious companion — one dry, one wet, and between them you can treat almost any skin that walks in. Chemical peels take the resurfacing further for clients who want more, and LED light therapy is an easy calm finish to a hydra appointment. The Ultimate Facial Course gathers these together with the standard and luxury facial routines.
This is the longest of our single skin treatments, with nine treatment units on top of the shared modules — 32 units in all. Students who are already working tend to spread it over a few weeks. There is no deadline and nothing expires, and the serums and protocols units are the ones people come back to most.
The course covers three pieces of equipment rather than one, and video is well suited to that — you can watch the ultrasonic scrubber section on its own the week your scrubber arrives, then come back to radio frequency later. Practise each device separately on volunteers before you try to run them as one appointment.
Each of the 32 units is assessed online as you reach it. Every unit is assessed, and if an assessment needs another try there is no limit on resubmissions and no extra charge. Because the course spans three devices, the assessments are spread across them rather than concentrated at the end, so you find out early if something has not landed.
No. You receive a certificate on completion rather than an accreditation. Radio frequency in particular sits in a grey area for some insurers and a few local authorities, so it is worth checking both your insurer’s position and your council’s licensing rules before you offer that part of the treatment.
Some facial experience makes this easier, because the course asks you to choose between serums and to decide how far to take a treatment. The Skin Healthcare module gives you skin types and disorders, and the treatment module has its own dedicated contra-indications unit, which is the one to know cold before you take bookings.
A hydradermabrasion machine and its tips, plus the serums and gels it uses. If you want to offer the whole course you will also need an ultrasonic skin scrubber and a radio frequency handpiece, though many therapists start with the hydra machine alone and add the others later. Nothing is bought from us.
Yes. The Foundation module covers promotion, retail, payments and the relevant legislation across twelve units. With three devices taught here, the practical business question is whether to sell them as one premium appointment or as separate treatments at different prices — both work, and the retail units will help you decide.
Yes. You can spread the cost over three interest-free payments at the checkout.
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria Arpels
Founder and Head of Training
Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.

Hydradermabrasion cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates in a single pass, using water and serums rather than dry abrasion. It suits skin too reactive for a crystal machine, and it finishes with the client looking hydrated rather than pink. This course also takes in the ultrasonic skin scrubber and radio frequency skin tightening, so you can build a full treatment rather than one step.
