Add LED Light Therapy To Your Treatment Menu

LED is the least demanding treatment on this page to deliver and the easiest to sell alongside something else. The client lies under the light while you do nothing, which means it costs you very little chair time beyond what you are already spending, and it turns a facial into a longer, higher-priced appointment without much extra work.

It is also the shortest course we offer in this category, with three focused LED units: what the therapy is, its uses and benefits, and safety and side effects. The Foundation, Anatomy and Physiology and Skin Healthcare modules make up the remainder, for 26 units in all. Video demonstrations and an eBook, kept for life.

What You’ll Be Able To Do

  • Explain what each wavelength is used for, in terms a client will follow
  • Match a light to the concern a client has actually come in with
  • Set session length and spacing rather than guessing
  • Work through the safety considerations, including eye protection
  • Recognise the side effects that can occur and what to tell a client about them
  • Add LED onto treatments you already offer without lengthening your own working time

What To Learn Alongside LED Light Therapy

LED earns its keep bolted onto something else. It is the natural finish after dermaplaning, microdermabrasion or hydradermabrasion, when the skin has just been exfoliated and the client is happy to lie still for a while longer. Therapists who are building a skin menu from scratch usually pair LED with one exfoliation treatment first. All of them sit inside the Ultimate Facial Course.

LED Light Therapy Course FAQs

How Long Does The LED Light Therapy Course Take?

This is the shortest of our skin courses at 26 units, and the LED section itself is only three of them. Students often finish the treatment material in a single sitting and then work through the Anatomy and Physiology module at their own pace. As with every course here, access does not expire.

Can I Really Learn LED Light Therapy Online?

This is the treatment best suited to online learning of anything on this page, because the skill is in knowing which light to choose and for how long rather than in what your hands do. The video demonstrations show the set-up and positioning; the judgement comes from the units on uses and benefits.

How Am I Assessed?

All 26 units are assessed online as you work through them. Every unit is assessed, and if an assessment needs another try there is no limit on resubmissions and no extra charge. With only three treatment units here, most of the assessment weight falls on the anatomy and skin health material rather than the LED section itself.

Is The LED Light Therapy Course Accredited?

No — a certificate on completion, not an accreditation. LED devices vary widely in output, and insurers sometimes ask which device you are using rather than only what training you hold, so have your machine’s specification to hand when you speak to them.

Do I Need To Be Qualified In Beauty Already?

Less so than for the other treatments here, because nothing is being abraded, cut or dissolved. That said, the Skin Healthcare module matters: some skin conditions and some medications make light treatment unwise, and knowing which is the difference between a safe add-on and a problem.

What Equipment Do I Need?

An LED panel, mask or lamp, and protective eyewear for both you and the client. Devices range enormously in price and in how many wavelengths they offer, so read the uses and benefits unit before you buy — it will tell you which wavelengths you actually need for the clients you see. Nothing is supplied by us.

Does It Cover The Business Side?

Yes, in the twelve-unit Foundation module. LED is unusual in that it is almost always sold as an upgrade rather than on its own, so the units on promoting products and services and on taking payments are the ones worth reading with your existing treatment list open beside you.

Can I Pay In Instalments?

Yes. You can spread the cost over three interest-free payments at the checkout.

How The Course Works

1

How You Learn

Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.

2

How You’re Assessed

Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

3

What You Finish With

When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Who You’ll Be Learning From

Victoria Arpels, founder of Next Step Beauty

Victoria Arpels

Founder and Head of Training

  • Trained in beauty therapy
  • Bachelor of Arts (Hons)
  • Certificate in Education
  • Lectured in further education
  • Founded Next Step Beauty in 2008
  • More than 100,000 students trained

Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.

Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.

She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.

She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.

LED light therapy uses different wavelengths of light on the skin, each suited to a different concern. It asks nothing of the client but to lie still, which makes it the easiest treatment to add to an appointment you are already running. This course covers what the wavelengths are used for, how long a session should last, and the safety side that matters more than most people assume.
