Bamboo massage uses bamboo canes as an extension of your hands, rolling and working them over the muscles to reach deeper than hand pressure alone comfortably allows. Clients book it as a firmer alternative to a standard massage, and therapists take it on because it does the deep work without the strain that heavy hand and thumb pressure puts on your wrists over a long day.

You study online at your own pace. Each unit has video tutorials and an eBook covering the theory, and every unit is assessed as you go — if an assessment needs another attempt, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost. You keep your course materials for life, so you can go back over the routine whenever you want to refresh it.

What You’ll Be Able To Do

• Carry out a full bamboo massage — the routine from start to finish.
• Work with the canes properly — a dedicated unit covers the equipment and products the treatment uses.
• Apply the movements the treatment is built on, and judge the pressure each one calls for.
• Screen your client and handle what follows — contra-indications and contra-actions are covered alongside the movements.
• Read the anatomy that matters — skin, muscles, the skeletal system, blood and circulation and the lymphatic system — and recognise skin types, diseases and disorders so you know when to refer a client on.
• Set yourself up to work — insurance, promoting your services, reception duties and taking payments are all covered in the Foundation module.

What To Learn Alongside Bamboo Massage

Bamboo massage builds on the same handling as a classical massage routine, so it sits well next to the rest of our massage training. Body massage is the full-body Swedish routine most therapists learn first, hot stone massage works heated stones through that routine, and Indian head massage covers the head, face, neck and shoulders and fits easily alongside another treatment.

Bamboo Massage Course FAQs

Do I need any experience or an existing massage qualification?

No, though bamboo work assumes the same handling as a classical massage, so if you already offer body massage you will recognise the structure straight away. The course starts from the Foundation, anatomy and physiology and skin healthcare modules regardless.

Why do clients book bamboo massage?

Most book it when they want firmer, deeper work than a standard massage gives them. It is also a point of difference on a treatment list, because far fewer therapists offer it than offer a classical massage.

What equipment do I need?

Equipment and products are covered as a unit in their own right, so you will know what to buy and how to use it before you work on a client. There is no kit to buy from us for this course.

How long does it take?

There are twenty-seven units and no deadline. The bamboo module itself is a compact four units, so most of your time goes on practising the cane work rather than on reading. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months.

How is the course delivered?

Everything is online. Each unit has video tutorials and an eBook covering the theory, so you can watch the cane movements repeatedly while you build the technique. You can study from a computer, tablet or phone.

How am I assessed?

Every one of the twenty-seven units has an assessment you complete online. The Bamboo Massage module is assessed across four units — the introduction, equipment and products, the movements with contra-indications and contra-actions, and the routine. If you do not pass first time, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

Is the course accredited?

Yes. The Bamboo Massage Course is accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers set their own requirements, so check what your chosen provider needs before you start taking clients.

Is bamboo massage part of one of your packages?

No. Bamboo massage is only available as a course on its own. Our Ultimate Massage Course covers body, Indian head and hot stone massage, and the Ultimate Holistic Course covers those three plus Hopi ear candling — neither includes bamboo.

Is business training included?

Yes, and it is particularly useful for a treatment few salons near you are likely to offer — the Foundation module covers promoting your services, reception duties, taking payments, insurance and the legislation that applies once you start working with clients.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. You can spread the cost over three interest-free payments at the checkout.
