Sharpen what you already do, or jump straight to the courses and FAQs.
These are the courses for technicians who can already do a set and want it to be faster, cleaner and worth more. Electric filing, structure, shaping and the finishing work that makes a client stop shopping around.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Pick the option that sounds most like you.
I Want to Work Faster
The eFile Nail Course is £75 in the current sale and is the single biggest time-saver in nails — done badly it damages the plate, done properly it takes twenty minutes off a rebalance.
I Want My Sets to Look Sharper
Shaping and structure are what separate a tidy set from a photographed one. Nail Shaping and Reverse Smile Line both target the finish rather than the application.
I Want Everything
The Ultimate Nail Course teaches every nail technique we offer in one enrolment, with a separate certificate for each course inside it.

Advanced Nail Courses
These assume you can already apply a set. Each course is tutor-assessed, accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and yours for life with unlimited resubmissions.
Any of these can be taken on its own, and several of them also sit inside the packages above.
I have recently completed the E file course with Next Step Beauty and this is the 4th course I have studied with them. I am a nail tech of 17 years and find the courses great for expanding my knowledge and keeping up with new techniques. Victoria’s videos are enjoyable to watch and informative. I would highly recommend.
I have recently completed the next steps hard gel and EFile on line course . Both courses were easy to follow and the training videos are great to go back to . Submitting my work was straight forward and quickly reviewed and marked . The staff are great at answering any queries you have .
I have just completed the efile course with Next Step! Highly recommend, the course itself has great detail and there is always someone on hand to help if needed!! Definitely worth it!! Thank you!

After Your Course: From Diploma to Your First Clients
Finishing your course is the start of the next step. Here’s how students go from learning to working with clients.
1. Practise on Your Models
You will practise on a training hand and on models, and photograph your work. Advanced work is assessed on precision, so your photographs need to show the structure and the sidewalls, not just the top.
2. Get Your Diploma
Pass your assessed case studies and receive your diploma certificate. If an assessment needs another try, you can resubmit as many times as you need.
3. Plan Your Business
Business training is included with every course to help you set your prices, present your work and find your first clients.
4. Keep Growing
Faster, cleaner sets mean more clients in a day at the same price, or the same clients at a higher one. Advanced skills usually pay for themselves in weeks rather than months.
Why Train Beyond the Basics?
Most technicians stop once they can apply a set. The ones who keep training get faster, charge more and spend less of their week fixing lifting.
- Speed Is Money: an e-file used properly takes real time off a rebalance. Two extra clients a day at the same price is a pay rise with no new marketing.
- Fewer Comebacks: better structure and shaping mean fewer breakages and fewer unpaid repair appointments eating your diary.
- A Higher Price Point: precision work is visibly harder. Clients can see the difference between a tidy set and a sharp one, and they pay for it.
- Work Others Turn Away: bitten nails, difficult shapes and repairs are where advanced technique earns its keep.
- Your Portfolio Improves: sharper sidewalls and cleaner smile lines photograph better, and photographs are what bring the next client.
Advanced Techniques Explained
Five skills that change how a set looks and how long it takes you. None of them is a new product system — they make the systems you already use work properly.
Electric Filing
Bit selection, speed, direction and pressure. Used well it takes serious time off a rebalance and gives a cleaner cuticle line than hand filing; used badly it rings and thins the natural plate.
Sculpting
Building length on a form so the nail is one continuous piece with no join to blend. The strongest result and the technique that most rewards precise product placement.
Builder (Hard) Gel
A firm gel built to a proper apex under a lamp. Where it differs from softer gels is the filing — it holds its shape, so your structure has to be right before you cure it.
Nail Shaping
Square, squoval, almond, coffin and stiletto, filed accurately and matched across ten nails. The least glamorous skill here and the one clients notice first.
Reverse Smile Line
An inverted French built into the product rather than painted over it. A finishing technique that exposes any unevenness underneath, which is exactly why it is worth learning.
Hand File vs Electric File
The e-file is the biggest single change most technicians make to how they work. It is also the easiest to do damage with, which is why it has a course of its own.
| Hand File | Electric File | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed on a rebalance | Slow | Considerably faster |
| Cuticle line | Harder to get crisp | Clean with the right bit |
| Risk to the natural nail | Low | Real, if speed or pressure is wrong |
| Learning curve | Short | Needs proper training |
| Cost to start | A few pounds | Machine plus bits |
| Best for | Finishing, light work | Removal, rebalances, bulk |
Most working technicians use both — the e-file for removal and bulk, a hand file to finish. Decorative work sits on the Nail Art Courses page.
Advanced Nail Courses UK: E-File, Structure and Shaping Online
Our advanced nail courses are for technicians who already work on clients and want to be faster, cleaner and worth more per appointment. They assume you can apply a set — what they change is how well.
The E-File Is the Big One
Nothing else on this page changes your week as much. The eFile Nail Course covers bit selection, speed, direction of travel and pressure, and the difference between removing product and thinning the natural plate. Rings of fire and heat spikes are not bad luck; they are specific, avoidable mistakes, and they are taught as such.
Done properly it takes real time off a rebalance, which is the one change that adds clients to a day without adding hours to it.
Structure and Shape
Sculpting and builder gel are about where the strength sits. An apex in the wrong place means a set that snaps however thick it is, and both courses work through placement, building and filing back to a shape that is even from every angle.
Nail shaping is the least glamorous course here and probably the most noticed by clients: ten nails that match, with sidewalls straight and a free edge that suits the hand. The reverse smile line then sits on top of that, and it is unforgiving — a smile line shows every flaw in the structure underneath, which is exactly why it is a good test of your own work.
How the Courses Work
Every technique is demonstrated on video by Victoria, our tutor, filmed close enough to see bit angle, bead placement and how a shape is filed in. You replay a step as often as you need. Written work and photographic case studies are assessed by a tutor who tells you what to correct, with unlimited resubmissions at no extra cost.
There is no timetable and access does not expire, so you can train between clients. Advanced work rewards short, repeated practice more than long sessions.
Who These Are Not For
If you cannot yet apply a full set confidently, start with the beginner nail courses instead. These courses refine an existing skill rather than teaching one from scratch, and taking them too early usually means repeating them later.
If what you want is decorative rather than structural, the designs live on the Nail Art Courses page.
Accreditation
Our advanced nail courses are accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers set their own requirements, so the certificate is what you present rather than cover in itself. Business training is included with every course.

Advanced Nail Course FAQs
Am I Experienced Enough for These?
If you can apply a full set unaided and your work lasts a client two to three weeks, yes. These courses refine technique rather than teach it from scratch.
If sets are still lifting or breaking regularly, that is a preparation and structure problem the beginner courses solve more cheaply than starting here.
Is an E-File Safe to Use on Natural Nails?
In trained hands, yes. Damage comes from the wrong bit, too much speed, working in one direction too long, or leaning on the machine instead of letting it cut.
Rings of fire and heat spikes are specific, avoidable errors rather than bad luck, and the course teaches how each one happens so you can recognise it before the client feels it.
Which Advanced Course Pays for Itself Fastest?
The e-file, in most cases. Taking twenty minutes off a rebalance across a full week is the difference between fitting one more client a day or finishing earlier.
Shaping is the next most noticeable to clients, because a matched set reads as professional even to someone who could not say why.
What Is an Apex and Why Does It Matter?
The apex is the highest, thickest point of the enhancement, and it needs to sit over the stress area of the nail rather than anywhere that looks neat.
Put it in the wrong place and the set relies on thickness instead of structure, which is why it snaps at the first knock. Sculpting and builder gel both work through finding and building it.
Do I Need New Equipment?
Only for the e-file, which needs a machine and a set of bits. The structure and shaping courses use the product and files you already work with.
You can buy a kit alongside your course or source your own — nothing here is tied to a particular brand.
Can Advanced Technique Be Taught Online?
Arguably better than in a room. The detail that matters is small and close — bit angle against the plate, where the bead sits, how a shape is filed in — and video shot close in shows it from the angle you work at, as many times as you need.
Your own sets are assessed from photographs, so a tutor still corrects your work rather than just showing you theirs.
Are the Advanced Courses Accredited?
Yes — ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers apply their own criteria, so the certificate is the document you present to them rather than cover in itself.
