This is for you if you are starting from nothing. No experience, no qualification, no idea yet whether you are any good at it — just the feeling that you would like to do this properly rather than on your friends’ hands at the kitchen table.
It also suits you if you have been teaching yourself from videos and want the gaps filled in and the work assessed by somebody who knows. And it suits anyone fitting study around a job, children or both, because nothing here is timetabled.
It is probably not the right choice if you already work in nails and only want one new system. A single course will cost you less and get you there faster.
A single course teaches you one treatment. That is fine until a client asks for something else, and then you are either turning work away or sending her to somebody who will keep her.
These five are the ones a nail room actually needs: the natural nail care everything sits on, the colour service that rebooks every three weeks, and three ways to add strength or length depending on the client in front of you.
Taking them together also means the Foundation, anatomy and nail healthcare theory is studied once instead of five times — and the package costs less than the five courses bought separately.
Five courses, each with its own certificate:
Plus the Foundation, anatomy and physiology, and nail and skin healthcare modules, business training, our private student groups, and the ten-book Beauty Business eBook bundle.
By the end you will not be hoping a client asks for the one thing you can do. You will be able to sit anybody down and work on her nails properly.
Enrol whenever you are ready — there is no intake date and no waiting list. Spread the cost over three interest-free payments with Klarna or Clearpay if that suits you better.
From there it is yours. Lifetime access to the material, no deadline to finish, and unlimited resubmissions if assessed work comes back needing another go. You collect a certificate for each of the five courses as you complete them, so you can start taking bookings for manicure and gel polish long before you finish acrylic.
Business training is included, and you get access to our private student groups from the day you start.
You can do this. This is your next step.
Three enhancement systems plus manicure and gel polish means a reasonable spread of products: nail prep, sanitiser, a bonder or primer and a cleanser; manicure tools; gel polish base, colour and top coat; tips and tip adhesive; soak-off gel; acrylic liquid and powder with a brush; a builder-in-a-bottle gel; a UV or LED lamp; files and buffers; and remover wraps or foils.
You do not need all of it on day one. The course order is built so the spend spreads — the manicure module needs almost nothing, and each system arrives in turn.
Our Complete Nail Kit covers the whole package in one order if you would rather not assemble it piece by piece. Products you already own are fine — nothing in the course is tied to a brand.
None. It begins with personal standards, hygiene and setting up a work area, and the first treatment module is manicure. Complete beginners are exactly who this package is built for, and it is our most popular course.
Size. The Ultimate Nail Course is eleven courses, adding pedicure, nail sculpting, quick dip, fibreglass and silk, hard gel and both nail art courses. This is the core five at a lower price. Worth knowing: Builder in a Bottle is in this package and not in the Ultimate Nail Course, so the two are not simply big and bigger.
The Starter Gel Course is also five courses at the same price, but a gel-only route — it swaps acrylic and Builder in a Bottle for builder (hard) gel and gel polish nail art. Take this one if you want acrylic in your skill set; take that one if you have decided to work in gel.
Yes, and by a clear margin at current prices. You also avoid working through the same Foundation, anatomy and nail healthcare units five times over.
A certificate for each of the five courses, issued as you complete them. That is the point of the structure — you can be taking paid manicure and gel polish bookings while you are still working through acrylic.
There is no deadline. Nineteen units are the shared theory and 20 are treatment work across five techniques, each wanting real practice on real hands. Months rather than weeks is realistic, and lifetime access means you can revisit a system whenever a client asks for it.
All 39 units are assessed, with unlimited resubmissions and no extra charge. Victoria Arpels, BA (Hons), Cert Ed, demonstrates every technique on video and marks the assessed work herself.
Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT.
Our courses are recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Each insurer sets its own requirements, so check with the one you intend to use before you start taking bookings.
Yes. Pay in 3 is available with Klarna or Clearpay at checkout.
You can ask questions as you work through the units, and you get access to our private student groups. On a package this size that matters more than on a single course — you will be the one asking about acrylic in month two and answering somebody else’s gel polish question in month four.
Your diploma is issued by Next Step Beauty and carries accreditation from the bodies below. Those accreditations are what insurers look for when you come to arrange cover.
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria Arpels
Founder and Head of Training
Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.
