An electric file takes the slow, hand-tiring parts of extension work — bulk removal, shaping, taking length down, refining — and makes them quicker and more precise. This course is for nail technicians who already work with extensions and overlays and want to learn the eFile properly, rather than picking it up by trial and error.
You learn online at your own pace, and your practical work is assessed by a tutor with written feedback.

Who is this course for?
Nail technicians who already work with extensions and overlays. It teaches you to use an electric file on that work rather than teaching the treatments themselves, so you will get most from it if you are already doing them.
How long does it take?
You work at your own pace and there is no deadline. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months.
Do I have to buy the kit?
No. If you already have an electric file you can use it. The eFile Kit is there if you would prefer everything supplied.
How is my practical work assessed?
You submit case studies for your tutor to assess and you get written feedback. If anything needs improving you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
Will it help with hand strain?
Used correctly, an electric file does more of the work than hand filing does. The course covers technique, speed and pressure so you are working efficiently rather than forcing the file.

How You Learn
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
How You’re Assessed
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
What You Finish With
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.
