Gel polish nail art is design worked in gel and cured into the set rather than painted on top of it. That one difference changes everything a client cares about: the art lasts as long as the gel polish does, it sits flush under the top coat instead of sitting proud of it, and it cannot chip off a week later while the colour underneath stays perfect.
It is also the most profitable thing you can add to an appointment you are already doing. The client is in the chair, the lamp is on, the base is cured — a marbled accent nail or a painted flower adds minutes and several pounds. Most technicians who learn this put it on a price list as a per-nail add-on rather than a separate booking.
The course teaches ten designs step by step, including marbling and painted flowers, and the method behind them: how much gel to load, how to move it before it cures, when to cure between layers and when not to. The treatment module is three units — introduction, procedure and application, then maintenance and aftercare.
This is a focused add-on course and the structure reflects that: 2 modules and 15 units, twelve of them the Foundation module and three the technique. Victoria, our tutor, demonstrates every design on video, every unit is assessed, and you can resubmit as many times as you need. Study at your own pace with lifetime access; most students finish this one quickly. Business training is included with every course, and you get access to our private student groups while you study.
This one is an add-on, so what matters is what it attaches to:
You need gel paints or gel polish in several colours, a fine detail brush and a flat brush, a dotting tool, a UV or LED lamp, no-wipe top coat, and a cleanser. Thin gel paints matter more than expensive ones — a thick gel will not move the way marbling needs it to.
Practice tips work well here. Because the design is cured rather than flexed, a tip behaves almost exactly like a client’s nail for this particular technique.
Our Gel Polish Nail Art Kit brings the colours and brushes together in one order. Products you already own are fine — nothing in the course is tied to a brand.
There is no formal prerequisite, but in practice yes — the art is built into the layers of a gel polish set and cured with it, so you need to be able to apply one. If you cannot yet, take Gel Polish first.
The Nail Art Course is tools applied on top of a finished nail — gems, tape, glitter, transfers. This is design worked in gel and cured inside the set, so it lasts as long as the gel polish and finishes flush under the top coat. Different skill, different wear, and they work well on the same client.
Because it is a design add-on rather than a treatment in its own right. You get the full twelve-unit Foundation module and the three-unit gel polish nail art module — 15 units in total. It does not repeat the anatomy or nail healthcare theory, which sits in the gel polish or enhancement course this one is designed to sit on top of.
Short on reading, longer on brush control. The ten designs are the part worth spending time on, and marbling in particular takes repetition before it stops looking muddy. There is no deadline and lifetime access.
All 15 units are assessed, with unlimited resubmissions and no extra charge. Victoria Arpels, BA (Hons), Cert Ed, demonstrates every design on video and marks the assessed work herself.
Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT.
Our courses are recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Each insurer sets its own requirements, so check with the one you intend to use before you start taking bookings.
Not for this technique. The whole point is that the design cures into the set, which only gel will do. Painted art on top of a cured nail is a different method and is covered on our other nail art courses.
Yes. Pay in 3 is available with Klarna or Clearpay at checkout.
You can ask questions as you work through the units, and you get access to our private student groups. Colours bleeding into each other is the universal first problem here, and it is nearly always a gel that is too thin or a layer that was not flash-cured — which is quicker to diagnose from a photo than from a description.
Your diploma is issued by Next Step Beauty and carries accreditation from the bodies below. Those accreditations are what insurers look for when you come to arrange cover.
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria Arpels
Founder and Head of Training
Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.
