Add Quick Dip Nails To Your Treatment Menu

Quick dip is the dip powder system: a bonder and base go onto the nail, the nail is dipped into coloured acrylic powder, and the layers are sealed with an activator. No mixing, no brush work holding a bead, no monomer smell, and on most systems no lamp. A full set goes on faster than almost anything else that gives this much strength.

It fills a specific gap on a price list. A client who wants the durability of acrylic but is put off by the fumes, the filing or the hour in the chair will book this instead — and it works as an overlay on the natural nail or over tips when they want length, so it covers two services rather than one.

The catch is that the system is easy to do badly. Dip too soon and the layers bloom; dip too deep and you flood the cuticle; over-apply activator and the surface goes dull and brittle. The technique is about timing and depth rather than sculpting, and the Application and Procedure unit is where that gets drilled. Hygiene also matters more here than elsewhere, which is covered properly rather than glossed over — you never dip a client’s finger into a shared pot.

The course runs across 4 modules and 23 units. Victoria, our tutor, demonstrates every stage on video, every unit is assessed, and you can resubmit as many times as you need. Study at your own pace with lifetime access; students typically take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Business training is included with every course, and you get access to our private student groups while you study.

What You’ll Be Able To Do

  • Prepare the natural nail and apply bonder and base so the powder adheres evenly
  • Dip to the right depth and at the right moment, which is the whole technique in one sentence
  • Build layers that come out smooth rather than blooming, pitting or going patchy
  • Apply quick dip as an overlay on the natural nail, and over tips when the client wants length
  • Use activator correctly, so the finish is hard and glossy rather than dull and brittle
  • File and finish a set, which behaves differently under the file from sculpted acrylic
  • Work hygienically with powders — decanting rather than dipping a client into a shared pot
  • Maintain, infill and remove a set without thinning the natural nail
  • Price it against acrylic and explain to a client why it is quicker but not weaker

What To Learn Alongside Quick Dip

Quick dip is one enhancement system among several, and clients ask for all of them:

  • Acrylic Nail Course — liquid and powder. Same chemistry, applied by hand instead of by dipping, and still the system to reach for when a client wants real length.
  • Builder in a Bottle Course — the gel equivalent of a quick overlay, brushed on and cured.
  • Full Cover Tips Course — the other fast service, for clients who want length in a short appointment.
  • eFile Nail Course — electric file work, which cuts dip powder removal and refinement right down.
  • Ultimate Nail Course — the eleven-course package that includes this course along with acrylic, gel, sculpting and more.

What You’ll Need To Practise

You need a dip powder system — bonder, base, at least one colour powder, activator and top coat — plus nail prep, a file and buffer, tips if you want to practise length, and acetone for removal. A small brush for decanting powder is worth having from day one, because that is how you will work on clients.

Buy one colour, not six. Learning the depth and the timing takes a lot of dips, and the colour is irrelevant until the layers come out smooth.

Our Quick Dip Kit brings the system together in one order if you would rather not source it piece by piece. Products you already own are fine — nothing in the course is tied to a brand.

Quick Dip Nails Course FAQs

Do I need any experience?

No. There is no prerequisite, and quick dip is one of the more approachable systems to start on because there is no bead to control and no sculpting. The Foundation module begins at standards, hygiene and setting up a work area.

Is dip powder the same as acrylic?

Chemically it is very close — the powder is an acrylic polymer either way. The difference is how it gets onto the nail: acrylic is mixed with a liquid monomer and shaped by hand, dip powder is picked up dry and cured by an activator. That is why there is no monomer smell and why the appointment is shorter, but also why you have less control over the shape than you do with acrylic.

Do I need a lamp?

Most dip systems cure with a liquid activator rather than light, so no. Some brands finish with a gel top coat that does need curing — check what your system asks for, which the products unit covers.

Is it hygienic to dip a client’s finger into a pot?

You never do. You decant what you need and pour the powder over the nail, or use a dedicated pot per client. This comes up in the course because it is the single thing most often got wrong by people who learned from videos online.

How long will the 23 units take me?

Nineteen of the 23 are the theory shared across our nail courses, and four are the treatment. The reading is quick. The dipping wants repetition — expect to remove your first few sets. Students usually take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, with no deadline.

How is my work assessed?

All 23 units are assessed, with unlimited resubmissions and no extra charge. Victoria Arpels, BA (Hons), Cert Ed, demonstrates every stage on video and marks the assessed work herself.

Is the Quick Dip Nails Course accredited?

Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT.

Will I be able to get insurance?

Our courses are recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Each insurer sets its own requirements, so check with the one you intend to use before you start taking bookings.

How is a quick dip set removed?

Filed back and then soaked off, which the maintenance and removals unit covers. It is not a peel-off system, and letting a client lift a set themselves takes layers of natural nail with it.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. Pay in 3 is available with Klarna or Clearpay at checkout.

What support do I get while I study?

You can ask questions as you work through the units, and you get access to our private student groups. Blooming — a cloudy, patchy surface — is the first problem everyone hits, and it is nearly always base coat that had not gone tacky before the dip. Quicker to diagnose from a photo than from a description.

How The Course Works

1

How You Learn

Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.

2

How You’re Assessed

Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

3

What You Finish With

When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Founder and Head of Training

  • Trained in beauty therapy
  • Bachelor of Arts (Hons)
  • Certificate in Education
  • Lectured in further education
  • Founded Next Step Beauty in 2008
  • More than 100,000 students trained

Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.

Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.

She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.

She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.
