Semi-permanent eyeliner places pigment into the lash line, so a client wakes up with her liner already done. It is a treatment clients come back for, and it sits naturally alongside brow and lash work on a treatment menu. This course takes you from the anatomy of the eye through to aftercare.

You study online at your own pace, with video tutorials and eBooks covering the theory. You practise on your own models and submit photographs of that work for your tutor to assess. You get written feedback, and if something needs improving you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

What To Learn Alongside Semi-Permanent Eyeliner

Semi-permanent eyeliner is one of four semi-permanent make up treatments we train in, and it is usually offered alongside brow work. Technicians commonly pair it with ombre and powder brows or microblading, and add semi-permanent lip liner so a client can have her brows, eyes and lips done by the same person.

How long does it take?

You work at your own pace and there is no deadline. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months, fitting it around work and family.

How is the course delivered?

Everything is online. Each unit has video tutorials and an eBook covering the theory, and you can study from a computer, tablet or phone.

Who do I practise on?

You arrange your own models. Most students start with friends and family who understand they are training, and build up from there as their work becomes more consistent.

How is my practical work assessed?

You submit photographs of four client treatments for your tutor to assess, and you get written feedback on what is working and what to change. If anything needs improving you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

What support do I get?

You get feedback from experienced tutors as you work through the course, and access to our private student group where you can ask questions and share your work.

Do I have to buy the kit?

No. You can use your own equipment and pigments. The Semi Permanent Makeup Kit is there if you would prefer everything supplied.

How long does the treatment last on a client?

Semi-permanent eyeliner typically lasts up to around three years before it needs redoing, depending on the client’s skin and how they look after it.

Is this the same as an eyeliner tattoo?

It is a form of cosmetic tattooing, yes. The pigment is placed along the lash line in the upper layers of the skin rather than the deeper layer a body tattoo reaches, which is why it softens over time. Clients often ask for it as an “eyeliner tattoo” or “lash line enhancement”.

Do I need to travel anywhere?

No. The theory and video tutorials are studied from home at your own pace, and you practise on your own models wherever you are in the UK, then submit photographs of that work for your tutor to mark. There is nowhere to attend and no fixed dates.

Does the treatment hurt, and will I learn about numbing?

How a client experiences it varies from person to person. What the course gives you is a dedicated unit on anaesthetics in the Semi-Permanent Make Up Foundation module — what can be used, when, and the safety considerations that go with it — so you can advise a client properly before you start.
