You practise first on synthetic skins, then on your own models, and submit photographs of that work for your tutor to assess. What You’ll Be Able To Do

• Read skin and anatomy, so you know how skin structure, skin type and the healing process affect the way pigment settles and how long it holds.
• Choose the right pigment using colour theory, so the result suits your client’s skin tone and hair colour instead of reading as drawn on.
• Map and design the brow so shape, density and symmetry suit the face in front of you, not a template.
• Work the shading technique itself — needle configuration, angle, pressure and coverage — and build an even gradient through repetition.
• Consult and screen your client, recognising contra-indications and giving clear pre-treatment advice.
• Work to professional hygiene and safety standards, including sterilisation and the legislation that applies to the treatment.
• Advise on aftercare, so your client knows what to expect as the brow heals and how to look after it.

How long does it take?

You work at your own pace and there is no deadline. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months, fitting it around work and family.

How is the course delivered?

Everything is online. Each unit has video tutorials and an eBook covering the theory, and you can study from a computer, tablet or phone.

Who do I practise on?

You start on synthetic skins, which form part of the assessed work, then arrange your own models. Most students begin with friends and family who understand they are training, and build up from there as their shading becomes more even.

How is my practical work assessed?

You submit photographs of your skins practice and of four client treatments for your tutor to assess, and you get written feedback on what is working and what to change. If anything needs improving you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

How is this different from microblading?

Microblading cuts fine, hair-like strokes into the skin with a manual blade. Ombre and powder brows shade the brow with a machine for a softer, more filled-in look. Many technicians learn both and choose per client. Our Microblading Course covers the stroke technique.

Do I have to buy the kit?

No. You can use your own machine, needles and pigments. The Semi Permanent Makeup Kit is there if you would prefer everything supplied.

Is this the same as an eyebrow tattoo?

It is a form of cosmetic tattooing, yes. The pigment is worked into the upper layers of the skin rather than the deeper layer a body tattoo reaches, which is why the result softens over time instead of staying put. Clients use “eyebrow tattoo”, “powder brows” and “ombre brows” fairly interchangeably, so it helps to know what someone means when they book.

Do I need to travel anywhere?

No. The theory and video tutorials are studied from home at your own pace, and you practise on your own models wherever you are in the UK, then submit photographs of that work for your tutor to mark. There is nowhere to attend and no fixed dates.

Does the treatment hurt, and will I learn about numbing?
