How Long Does the Makeup Course Take?

There are 26 units across four modules, three of them on makeup itself. The theory is short; building a portfolio is what takes the time, and you will want several faces of different ages and skin tones before you start charging. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months.

How Is the Course Delivered?

Entirely online. Base application is the unit worth repeating — it is the step clients notice and the one that photographs badly when it is wrong. Victoria works through it on camera. You arrange your own models.

How Am I Assessed?

All 26 units are assessed, with unlimited resubmissions. Makeup assessment is more visual than most: what is being looked at is whether the finish suits the face and the occasion, not whether you followed a fixed sequence.

Is the Makeup Course Accredited?

Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT. The certificate is recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens, each setting its own requirements. Makeup artists working at venues are often asked for proof of cover, so it is worth arranging before your first booking.

Is There a Kit For This Course?

No, and that is deliberate. A makeup kit is personal — shade ranges, brush preferences and brand loyalties differ from artist to artist, and a fixed kit would suit almost nobody. Build yours around the skin tones you expect to work on.

Do I Need Any Experience?

No. The Skin Healthcare module covers skin types and disorders before you apply anything, which matters because a base that looks perfect on healthy skin can make a compromised skin look worse.

What Business Training Is Included?

The Foundation module’s 12 units cover business promotion, promoting products and services, retail legislation, reception duties and taking payments. Makeup is bookings-and-deposits work rather than walk-in work, so the reception and payments units are the practical ones — occasion clients cancel, and how you handle deposits decides whether that costs you.
