What You’ll Need To Practise

A spray machine and compressor, a tent, extraction or good ventilation, solutions in more than one strength, barrier cream, disposables and the usual consultation supplies. How Long Does the Spray Tanning Course Take?

There are 27 units across four modules. The theory is quick, but practice is gated by your models — a tan takes hours to develop, so you cannot assess your own work until the next day. Plan the practical around that rather than expecting same-day feedback. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months.

How Is the Course Delivered?

Entirely online. The application unit shows the gun distance and the overlap pattern, which are the two things that decide whether a tan is even — both are easier to see than to read. Models are arranged by you.

How Am I Assessed?

Every unit is assessed, with unlimited resubmissions. Assessment here looks at the developed result rather than the application — a tan that looks perfect wet and patchy dry has failed, and that is judged the following day.

Is the Spray Tanning Course Accredited?

Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT. The certificate is recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens, each setting its own requirements. Mobile tanning is common, so check that your cover extends to working in clients’ homes if that is your plan.

Do I Need to Buy the Kit?

This is the one course where equipment is not optional — you cannot practise without a machine and a tent. The Spray Tan Kit is the complete set-up. If you source your own, budget for extraction as well as the gun.

Do I Need Any Experience?

No. The Skin Healthcare module covers skin types, which is the groundwork for solution strength — the same solution reads completely differently on two different skins, and matching it is most of the skill.

What Business Training Is Included?

The Foundation module’s 12 units cover business promotion, promoting products and services, retail legislation, reception duties and taking payments. Tanning is seasonal and group-booked, so the promotion units matter — filling a quiet January is a different job from turning away work in June.
