What You’ll Be Able To Do

• Carry out a full Swedish body massage — the routine from start to finish, and the aftercare advice that goes with it.
• Explain what massage does to the body, so you can tell a client what to expect and why it helps.
• Read the anatomy that matters — skin, muscles, the skeletal system, blood and circulation and the lymphatic system — and understand how each responds to massage.
• Recognise skin types, diseases and disorders, so you know when to treat and when to refer a client on.
• Consult and prepare properly, working to professional hygiene and health and safety standards.
• Set yourself up to work — insurance, promoting your services, reception duties and taking payments are all covered in the Foundation module.

Do I need any experience to start?

No. The course is written for complete beginners and starts with the foundations — anatomy and physiology, skin health, hygiene and health and safety — before you reach the massage routine itself. If you already work in beauty or holistic therapy, you can move through the early modules quickly.

How long does it take?

You work at your own pace and there is no deadline. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months, fitting it around work and family.

How is the course delivered?

Everything is online. Each unit has video tutorials and an eBook covering the theory, and you can study from a computer, tablet or phone.

How am I assessed?

Every one of the twenty-six units has an assessment you complete online as you work through it. If you do not pass first time, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

Is the course accredited?

Yes. The Body Massage Course is accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers set their own requirements, so it is worth checking what your chosen provider needs before you start taking clients.

Is Swedish massage the same as body massage?

In practice, yes. “Body massage” is the general term and Swedish massage is the classical full-body technique behind it, so clients and salons tend to use the two names for the same treatment.

Is business training included?

Yes. Business training is included with every course, and the Foundation module covers promoting your services, reception duties, taking payments, insurance and the legislation that applies once you start working with clients.

What support do I get?

You get feedback from experienced tutors as you work through the course, and access to our private student group where you can ask questions and share your work.
