Chemical peels sit at a higher price point than a facial and clients book them in courses rather than singly, which makes them one of the better earners on a skin menu. They are also the treatment where getting the product choice wrong shows most clearly, so the training matters more than the equipment does.
The peel module takes an unusual route in: it opens with the ageing process, so you understand what is happening in skin over time before looking at what a peel is doing about it. From there it covers peels themselves and the range of peel products, closing with a recap unit. Foundation, Anatomy and Physiology and Skin Healthcare complete the course at 27 units.
Peels are often preceded by dermaplaning, which removes the surface layer first so the acid reaches skin evenly — the two sold together make a strong, higher-priced appointment. LED light therapy is a calm finish afterwards. If you would rather offer a non-acid route for reactive clients, hydradermabrasion gives you that option. The Ultimate Facial Course includes peels alongside five other treatments.
The peel module is four units and the whole course is 27, so it is one of the shorter ones here. Where students slow down is the products unit, which is worth reading more than once — it is the one you will draw on every time a supplier’s catalogue lands. Lifetime access means you can.
Peels are mostly a decision rather than a technique: the application itself is straightforward and the judgement is in which product, what strength and how long. That is knowledge, and it transfers well through video and an eBook you can reread. Practise the timing and removal on volunteers with the mildest product you have before going further.
Each of the 27 units is assessed online. Every unit is assessed, and if an assessment needs another try there is no limit on resubmissions and no extra charge. The peel module ends with a recap unit that pulls the product knowledge together, and most students find that the useful checkpoint before they start buying anything.
No, it is a professional training course with a certificate on completion. Peels are the treatment on this page where insurers are most likely to set conditions, sometimes restricting the acid strengths they will cover, so get that in writing from your insurer before you take a booking.
You should be confident with consultation and contra-indications before applying acid to a client’s face. The Skin Healthcare module covers skin types and disorders, and the Anatomy and Physiology module covers the skin’s structure in its own unit — both matter here more than on the gentler treatments, because a peel affects more than the surface.
The peel products themselves, along with a neutraliser where the product requires one, application brushes or gauze, and proper aftercare products for the client to take home. There is no machine to buy, which keeps the start-up cost low, but the products are ongoing and should be priced in.
Yes, through Foundation’s twelve units on promotion, retail, payments, reception and legislation. Peels are usually sold as a course of three to six sessions, so the units on promoting products and services are directly relevant — retailing the aftercare is a real part of the margin on this treatment.
Yes. You can spread the cost over three interest-free payments at the checkout.
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria Arpels
Founder and Head of Training
Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.

A chemical peel exfoliates with acid rather than abrasion, and the skill is almost entirely in choosing the right product at the right strength for the skin in front of you. This course starts with the ageing process itself, then works through what peels do, the products available and how they differ, so you are choosing on understanding rather than on what a supplier recommends.
