Extensions are the lash treatment with a built-in rebook. Because each extension is attached to a single natural lash and the natural lash sheds on its own cycle, clients come back for infills every few weeks. That turns one new client into a recurring appointment, which is why extensions are usually the first lash service therapists add.
This is the fullest of our lash courses at five modules. As well as the extensions module itself, it includes the complete Eyelash Enhancement module, so you finish able to tint lashes and brows and shape and wax the brow — the services clients most often want in the same appointment.
Russian Lashes is the usual next step — it builds volume fans onto the technique you learn here. Lash Lift gives you something to offer clients who want a lower-maintenance option, and Strip & Individual Lash Techniques covers the temporary version for events.
You need extensions in a range of lengths and curls, adhesive, isolation and application tweezers, eye pads, primer and a remover, plus the usual consultation and hygiene supplies. Our Eyelash Extensions Kit brings these together. It is optional, but adhesive behaves differently between brands, so stay with one while you are learning.
There are 30 units across five modules — the most of any of our lash courses, because it carries the Eyelash Enhancement module as well as extensions. The theory moves quickly; isolation is what takes the time. Expect to work through several full sets before your application speed is where it needs to be. Most students complete their training within a few weeks to a few months.
Entirely online, with step-by-step video demonstrated by Victoria. The isolation and application units reward slow, repeated watching — it is a close-up skill and the camera shows the tweezer angles better than a room would. You arrange your own models for the practical work.
All 30 units are assessed, with unlimited resubmissions. The extensions module is judged on the things that decide whether a set lasts: one extension to one natural lash, clean isolation, and adhesive control. A set that looks full but has lashes stuck together will come back early.
Yes — by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and the certificate covers the Eyelash Enhancement content as well. It is recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens, each of which sets its own requirements, so check with yours before taking bookings.
No. The Eyelash Extensions Kit saves sourcing a dozen items separately, but any professional set-up works. What you should not do is learn across several adhesives at once.
No. The Anatomy and Physiology module includes a unit on the anatomy of the eye, which matters here more than on most treatments — you will be working millimetres from it, and understanding the lash growth cycle is what explains why infills fall when they do.
The Foundation module’s 12 units cover business promotion, promoting products and services, reception duties, retail legislation and taking payments. Extensions run on rebooking, so the reception and diary units earn their keep here — an infill booked before the client leaves is the difference between a client and a one-off.
Tutor feedback on every assessment, our private student group, and lifetime access to the materials. Students often return to the aftercare and removal units once they have a regular infill clientele.
Your diploma is issued by Next Step Beauty and carries accreditation from the bodies below. Those accreditations are what insurers look for when you come to arrange cover.
Your login details arrive by email as soon as you enrol, and the platform works on a computer, tablet or phone. Each unit has tutorial videos and an eBook covering the theory, followed by a multiple-choice assessment you can retake as often as you need. Completing a module unlocks the next one.
Once you have worked through the theory, you submit case studies of your practical work. Your tutor assesses them against industry standards and gives you written feedback. If they ask for changes, you can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.
When you complete the course you receive a diploma certificate, available to download straight away and yours to keep. Your course materials stay available for life, so you can go back over anything later.

Victoria Arpels
Founder and Head of Training
Victoria started where most of our students start. She trained in beauty therapy while working as a therapist in a busy spa — learning the theory in one place and practising on real clients in the other.
Then she kept adding to what she could offer, building up treatment by treatment through intensive specialist courses, before going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Certificate in Education, and to lecture in further education. She has been the student learning an unfamiliar technique and the tutor assessing someone else’s work, which is a large part of why our courses are built the way they are.
She founded Next Step Beauty in 2008 because getting good training still came down to what you could afford and how close you happened to be to a college. More than 100,000 students have trained with us since.
She has stayed close to the teaching rather than stepping back from it. As Head of Training, Victoria works with the tutor team who assess the case studies you submit and write the feedback that comes back to you, and she is personally involved in the private student groups. Whichever course you choose, you are learning from people who had to practise it themselves first.

Semi-permanent extensions are applied lash by lash and topped up every few weeks, so they bring clients back on a cycle rather than once. This course covers preparation, isolation and application through to removal and aftercare, and includes lash and brow tinting alongside it.
