Hair grows back on a cycle, so a waxing client books again in four to six weeks whether you chase her or not. Our courses cover strip wax for legs, bikini and underarms, and hot wax for the coarser hair and the areas strip wax handles badly.

I Want to Start With Strip Wax
The Waxing Course is £75 in the current sale and covers strip waxing for legs, bikini line, underarms and face, built on hair growth cycles, correct application and removal, and aftercare. It is the routine most waxing clients book.
I Want Both Wax Types
The Complete Waxing Course teaches strip wax and hot wax in one enrolment, with the shared theory covered once rather than twice. Thirty-two units across five modules, and a separate certificate for each wax type.
I Already Work in Beauty
Waxing sits beside almost anything else on a treatment menu and fills the short gaps between longer appointments. Hot wax is the one to add if you already offer strip wax and keep turning away intimate or underarm work.
Waxing Course Package
Both wax types in one enrolment, with the foundation and anatomy theory taught once rather than repeated. Each wax type is assessed and certified separately, so you finish with a certificate for each.
- Lifetime Course Access
- Tutor Feedback & Support
- Tutor-Assessed Diplomas
- Private Student Group
Both wax types in one enrolment: strip wax for legs, arms and large areas, and hot wax for the bikini line, underarms and face.
2 courses in one package · 32 units · a certificate for each wax type.
Free Bonus 10-book Beauty Business eBook Bundle
- Instant access: start as soon as you enrol
- A separate certificate for each treatment
- Unlimited resubmissions if an assessment needs another try

I purchased the online waxing course and ultimate nail course and completed the waxing course within a couple of weeks with such ease. The online courses are perfect as you can go at your own pace and complete as much or as little as you like each time you log on which I find so beneficial as I do the courses alongside working full time. The courses are very easy to follow and the tutorial videos are very helpful also.
I completed the waxing course with next step. I really enjoyed completing the course and there was lots of information. I am now self employed with clients
I have just passed my waxing module and it was so informative. I really enjoyed going through the different modules and learning each stage of waxing.
Meet Your Tutor
Victoria Arpels BA (Hons), Cert Ed
Victoria trained in beauty therapy, worked in a busy spa and lectured in further education colleges before founding Next Step Beauty in 2008. Since then, Next Step Beauty has taught more than 100,000 students, with learners in 65 countries and territories across six continents. Victoria demonstrates the techniques in our course videos and, with our tutor team, supports students through personal feedback on their case studies and our private student groups.
Waxing Courses
Take one wax type on its own or learn both. Each course covers the science behind hair growth and skin reaction first, then the technique itself, with your practical work assessed by a tutor who writes back to you. Both are accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT.
Not sure which course is right for you? Leave your number and our friendly team will call you back to help you choose.

After Your Course: From Diploma to Your First Clients
Finishing your course is the start of the next step. Here’s how students go from learning to working with clients.
1. Practise on Your Models
You will practise on models and photograph your work as you go. Waxing is a hands-on treatment and the practical work is the bulk of the course.
2. Get Your Diploma
Pass your assessed case studies and receive your diploma certificate. If an assessment needs another try, you can resubmit as many times as you need.
3. Plan Your Business
Business training is included with every course to help you set your prices, present your work and find your first clients.
4. Keep Growing
Add a second or third treatment as your client list grows. A client in the chair every six weeks is the easiest person to sell a new treatment to.
Why Choose a Career in Waxing?
Waxing is the most predictable treatment on a beauty menu. Hair regrows on a four to six week cycle, so the rebook is built into the treatment rather than something you have to sell, and appointments are short enough to slot between longer ones.
- The Rebook Is Built In: hair comes back on a cycle, so a waxing client returns every four to six weeks without being chased.
- Short Appointments: a half leg or a lip and chin takes minutes, which fills the gaps around longer treatments.
- Modest Setup: a heater, wax, strips and a couch. No machine and no fit-out.
- Pairs With Everything: waxing sits beside lashes, brows, facials or nails without competing for the same appointment.
Waxing Techniques Explained
Not sure what separates strip wax from hot wax, or which areas need which? Here is what each one does and where it belongs.
Strip Wax
Warm wax spread thinly and lifted away with a paper or fabric strip. Fast over large areas, which is what makes it the standard for legs, arms and backs.
Hot Wax
Thicker wax applied in a layer, left to set and peeled off without a strip. It grips the hair rather than the skin, so it suits coarse hair and sensitive areas.
Leg Waxing
Half leg, full leg and the knee. Large areas worked in sections with the growth pattern, the treatment most clients book first and keep rebooking.
Bikini Line
Coarser hair and skin that reacts more, which is where hot wax earns its place. Consultation, positioning and aftercare matter as much as the technique.
Underarm
Hair that grows in several directions at once, so it is worked in sections rather than one pass. Short, well-paid and frequently rebooked.
Facial Waxing
Lip, chin and brow shaping on thin, visible skin. Small areas where precision and patch testing count, often added to another appointment.
Strip Wax vs Hot Wax
Both remove hair from the root. They differ in how the wax behaves, which decides where each one belongs on the body.
| Strip Wax | Hot Wax | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Warm wax spread thin, lifted with a strip | Thicker wax sets on the skin and is peeled off by hand |
| What it grips | Hair and the skin surface | Hair more than skin |
| Best for | Legs, arms, back, large areas | Bikini, underarm, face, coarse hair |
| Speed | Faster over big areas | Slower, worked in small sections |
| Comfort on sensitive skin | More drag on the skin | Usually more comfortable |
| Course | Waxing Course | Hot Waxing Course |
Most working therapists use both and choose by area and hair type. Patch testing, contra-indications and aftercare are covered in each course.
Waxing Courses UK: Train in Strip and Hot Waxing Online
Our online waxing courses cover both wax types a working therapist needs: strip wax for legs, arms and large areas, and hot wax for the bikini line, underarms and face.
Each course starts with what is happening under the skin — the hair growth cycle, why timing between appointments matters, skin reactions and contra-indications — because that is what separates a therapist who can wax from one who knows when not to. The technique follows, demonstrated on video by Victoria, and you work through it at your own pace with no deadlines and no timetable.
You keep your course materials for life, so you can go back to a demonstration months later when a client asks for an area you have not done in a while. Your practical work is assessed by a tutor who writes back to you with feedback, and if an assessment needs another go you can resubmit as many times as you need at no extra cost.
Business training is included with every course, covering pricing, presenting your work and finding your first clients, and you can join our private student groups to ask questions and see what other students are producing.
Both courses are accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and are recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Every insurer sets its own requirements, so check with yours before you take paying clients.
Most students complete within a few weeks to a few months, and you can pay in three with Klarna or EziPay. More than 100,000 students across 65 countries have trained with us since 2008.

Waxing Course FAQs
Do I Need Any Experience to Start?
None. Both waxing courses start from the beginning, with hair growth, skin structure and contra-indications before any wax is heated.
If you already wax and are adding hot wax, the Hot Waxing Course still covers that groundwork — the theory is shared — but the practical work is specific to film wax and the areas it suits.
Can I Really Learn Waxing Online?
The parts that go wrong in waxing are mostly judgement: reading hair growth direction, spotting a contra-indication, knowing when skin has had enough. Those teach well on video and in writing, and you can rewatch a demonstration as often as you need.
The hand skill comes from your models, and that is the part your tutor assesses from your photographs and written work.
Do I Need Models?
Yes. Waxing is assessed on treatments you carry out on real people and record as you go, so you will need willing models before you can finish.
Friends and family are fine. You need hair long enough to wax — roughly a quarter of an inch — so ask your models to leave an area for a couple of weeks rather than shaving the day before.
What Equipment Will I Need?
A wax heater, strip wax and paper or fabric strips for the Waxing Course, and film or hot wax for the Hot Waxing Course. Both need spatulas, pre and post-treatment products, gloves, couch roll and somewhere comfortable for your model to lie.
You can add a professional waxing kit when you enrol or use equipment you already own.
Are These Courses Accredited?
Yes. The Waxing Course, the Hot Waxing Course and the Complete Waxing Course are accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and are recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Every insurer sets its own requirements, so check with yours before you take paying clients.
How Long Will It Take?
There is no set length. A single wax type is often finished within a few weeks; the Complete Waxing Course runs to thirty-two units across five modules and most students work through it over a couple of months. Because access is for life, a quiet month costs you nothing.
Should I Learn Strip Wax, Hot Wax or Both?
Strip wax first if you are starting out. It covers legs, arms and the large areas that make up most bookings, and it is the faster technique to get confident with.
Hot wax is what lets you say yes to bikini, underarm and facial work on coarse hair, which is where clients most often get turned away. If you intend to offer a full waxing menu you will want both, and the Complete Waxing Course teaches them together with the shared theory covered once.
