Both routes involve careful work around the eyes, client preparation and aftercare. Neither is a shortcut around learning the theory or practising the technique. Here is how to make sense of the two options before you choose your training.
What changes in a lash lift?
A lash lift works with lashes already present. The treatment changes their shape to create a lifted, curled appearance, rather than adding extra lash fibres. The effect therefore depends on the client’s natural lashes as well as the treatment itself.

What changes with lash extensions?
Lash extensions introduce additional fibres, giving the practitioner another way to shape the appearance of length, curl and fullness. In classic lash application, an individual extension is attached to an individual natural lash. Volume techniques are a separate approach, using multiple finer extensions together.

Then look beyond the finished photograph. Read what the course teaches about preparation, application and client care. Ask yourself whether you are interested in learning that whole process, including the careful, repeated practice needed to improve.
There is no need to decide your entire future treatment menu before enrolling. A focused first course can give you one area to work on. If you want to learn several treatments, compare the actual contents of a package rather than assuming every course with “eye” or “lash” in its title includes both techniques.
Three assumptions to leave behind
“A natural-looking result means no product precautions”
The word “natural” describes the lashes being enhanced, not permission to skip safety learning. Follow your course guidance and the instructions for the professional products you use, including applicable patch-testing procedures, treatment suitability and aftercare. Do not copy processing times or product instructions from a photograph or a general blog post.
“One lash qualification covers every lash service”
Choose training for the treatment you intend to perform. An Accredited Diploma for one course should not be presented as evidence that you have completed another. Keep your eventual service descriptions aligned with the training you have successfully completed.
“I must already be a beauty therapist to begin”
NSB’s current courses are open to beginners. You can start without previous beauty experience, while still allowing time to learn the theory and develop your practical work. Starting as a beginner and being ready to provide a professional treatment are different stages.
