I really enjoyed my online Gel polish nail art course it was excellent and fun todo. My tutor and her team were really supportive and the videos and course materials are excellent . I really feel confident about doing Gel nail art and I have just signed up to do more courses.
I have thoroughly enjoyed doing the complete nail technicians course and have now qualified. I am now doing eye lashes and ombre nails and look forward to completing these too. The courses are very easy to follow and aslong as you practice you will get there.
I have completed several courses with Next Step Beauty and they have all been great, I have done acrylic nails, gel nails, manicure, fibre glass and silk nails and the E file course and I am about to complete their gel nail art course and then their ombre nail course.

After Your Course: From Diploma to Your First Clients
Finishing your course is the start of the next step. Here’s how students go from learning to working with clients.
1. Practise on Your Models
You will practise on a training hand and photograph your designs. Nail art is assessed on the finish, so clear, well-lit photographs of your own work are the bulk of what you submit.
2. Get Your Diploma
Pass your assessed case studies and receive your diploma certificate. If an assessment needs another try, you can resubmit as many times as you need.
3. Plan Your Business
Business training is included with every course to help you set your prices, present your work and find your first clients.
4. Keep Growing
Art is the easiest upsell you will ever make. A client already booked for a full set will add two accent nails without thinking about it, and that is pure margin on an appointment you were doing anyway.
Why Learn Nail Art?
Nail art is the cheapest skill to add and the fastest to pay for itself. It needs almost no new equipment, takes minutes in the chair, and it is the part of your work that gets photographed.
- Minutes, Not Hours: two accent nails add a few minutes to an appointment you were already doing and come with their own price.
- Almost No Setup: a few brushes, dotting tools and gems. The cheapest skill on this site to start offering.
- It Markets Itself: art is what clients photograph and post. A plain set rarely makes it onto anyone’s feed.
- Seasonal Demand on Repeat: Christmas, Halloween, weddings and holidays all bring design requests back round every year.
- It Separates You: plenty of technicians do a clean set. Far fewer can do a confident design on request.
Nail Art Techniques Explained
Most of what clients ask for comes down to a handful of techniques. Here is what each one is and which course teaches it.
Brush Control and Freehand
Line work, dots, flicks and placement. Unglamorous to practise and the thing that separates a confident design from a wobbly one, because every other technique sits on top of it.
One Stroke
A single brush loaded with two colours, pulled in one movement to produce a shaded petal. The fastest impressive design to learn and the easiest to charge for.
Gel Polish Nail Art
Art built in gel rather than paint, cured between layers. It lasts as long as the set underneath, which matters when a client is paying extra for it.
Ombre
Two colours faded into each other with a sponge or brush so there is no visible line. The most requested finish on a nail menu and harder to do cleanly than it looks.
Milky Ombre
A softer, translucent fade over a milky base — the subtle version clients ask for when they want something that still reads as natural.
Painted Art vs Gel Art vs Ombre
Three ways to decorate a nail. They differ in what the design is made from, how long it survives, and how long it adds to the appointment.
| Painted Art | Gel Art | Ombre | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Paint or acrylic colour on top | Gel colour cured in layers | Two colours blended |
| Wear | Needs a topcoat to survive | Lasts as long as the set | Lasts as long as the set |
| Time added | Minutes per nail | Longer, curing between layers | Short once practised |
| Hardest part | Steady line work | Keeping layers thin | Losing the join |
| Typical use | Two accent nails | Full sets, detailed designs | Whole set, any length |
Most technicians charge per accent nail rather than per set, so art is priced on top of whatever is underneath it.
Nail Art Courses UK: Train in Nail Art Online
Our online nail art courses cover freehand work, one stroke, gel art and ombre — the designs clients actually ask for, taught as techniques rather than as a set of patterns to copy.
Brush Control Comes First
Almost every design is a combination of a few movements: a straight line held steady, a dot placed where you meant it, a flick that tapers. The Nail Art Course drills those before it gets anywhere near a finished look, because a design copied from a photograph without that control just looks like a worse version of the photograph.
It also covers the unglamorous side: how much product to load, how to keep a brush usable, and how to place a design so it suits the nail shape rather than fighting it.
The Finishes Clients Name
One stroke produces a shaded petal from a single loaded brush and is the fastest impressive technique to learn. Gel polish nail art builds the design in gel and cures it, so it wears as long as the set underneath. Ombre is the most requested finish of all, and the milky version is the softer, more translucent take on it.
Three of these are bundled in the Ultimate Nail Art Course, which costs less than buying them separately and gives you a certificate for each.
How the Courses Work
Every technique is demonstrated on video by Victoria, our tutor, filmed close enough to see how the brush is loaded and the angle it is held at. You replay a step as often as you need while you practise. Written work and photographic case studies are assessed by a tutor who tells you what to correct, and resubmissions are unlimited at no extra cost.
There is no timetable and access does not expire, so you can pick it up between clients. Art rewards short, frequent practice more than long sessions.
What You Need
Very little, which is why art is the cheapest skill on this site to add. A set of detail brushes, dotting tools, a few colours and something to practise on. A training hand or a set of practice tips is enough to start; you do not need a model to learn a line.
These courses assume you can already apply the set the art goes on top of. If you cannot yet, start with the beginner nail courses and add art afterwards.
Accreditation
Our nail art courses are accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers set their own requirements, so the certificate is what you present rather than cover in itself. Business training is included with every course, which here mostly means knowing what to charge per accent nail.

What Our Students Say
I really enjoyed my online gel polish nail art course, it was excellent and fun to do. My tutor and her team were really supportive and the videos and course materials are excellent. I really feel confident about doing gel nail art and I have just signed up to do more courses.
Traceyjane Rees
The course itself was good. It did help to learn the basics of nail art. Then of course the more you practise the better you become. It was very easy to submit all my work so I could get the certificate, and these were reviewed very quickly also.
Giedre Spanceryte
I loved the nail art course. I did the online one, it was great! I could do it in my own time, the video tutorials are very clear and detailed. Help is also available if you need it.

Nail Art Course FAQs
Do I Need to Be Able to Draw?
No. Nail art is a set of repeatable hand movements rather than freehand illustration, and the techniques taught here are built from lines, dots and blends you drill until they are consistent.
People who say they cannot draw usually find the limiting factor is brush control, which is exactly what practice fixes.
Which Nail Art Course Should I Start With?
The Nail Art Course. It teaches the brush work every other design sits on, so starting elsewhere means learning a look without the control to repeat it.
One stroke is the natural second, because it turns that control into something clients recognise and pay for immediately.
Do I Need to Do Nails Already?
These courses assume you can apply the set the art goes on top of. They teach decoration, not the enhancement underneath.
If you are starting from nothing, work through the beginner nail courses first and add art once your sets are sound.
What Do I Practise On?
A training hand or a box of practice tips. Unlike enhancements, you do not need a model to learn a line or a blend, which makes art the easiest skill on this site to practise in short bursts.
Photograph your practice tips for your case studies in good, even light.
How Much Should I Charge for Art?
Most technicians price per accent nail on top of the set rather than raising the price of the whole service, which keeps the base price competitive while the art earns its own margin.
Business training is included with every course and covers how to present and price add-ons.
Is Ombre Hard to Learn?
Harder than it looks, which is why it has its own course. The difficulty is losing the join entirely so the two colours read as one fade, and that comes down to sponge pressure and timing rather than the colours themselves.
The milky version is softer and more forgiving, and many technicians find it the easier of the two to sell.
Are the Nail Art Courses Accredited?
Yes — ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers apply their own criteria, so the certificate is the document you present to them rather than cover in itself.
