Compare the ways to add length, or jump straight to the courses and FAQs.
Extensions are where a nail client stops shopping around. Length has to be built, balanced and maintained, and these courses cover the three ways to do it — tips, forms and gel — plus the shaping that makes a set look like it was worth the money.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Pick the option that sounds most like you.
I Want the Quickest Route to Length
The Full Cover Tips Course is £75 in the current sale. A pre-shaped tip covers the whole nail, so you get length in a far shorter appointment than sculpting takes.
I Want to Sculpt Properly
Sculpting on a form makes the extension one continuous piece of product with no join to blend. It is the strongest result and the one clients pay a premium for.
I Want the Whole Nail Pathway
The Complete Nail Technician Course is £245 and teaches extensions alongside manicure, gel polish, acrylic and builder gel, with a separate certificate for each course inside it.
Nail Course Packages
There is no extensions-only package, but both of these teach extension work alongside the rest of the nail menu, with the shared theory taught once and a separate certificate for each course inside.

Nail Extension Courses
Tips, forms and gel are three different routes to the same result. Each course is tutor-assessed, accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and yours for life with unlimited resubmissions.
Any of these can be taken on its own, and several of them also sit inside the packages above.
Really enjoyed my online acrylic nail extensions course, useful videos and information and guidance all throughout, also easy to work around the kids and housework would definitely recommend to anyone who want to build a business from home.
Fab course. I am actually qualified in gel nails and gel extensions but wanted to up my game and refresh my brain during Corona lock down. This course was very informative and thorough. I was surprised how much information was included. Learnt a lot - thank you
I have always wanted to further my beauty skills and with a family to look after college wasn’t a option as the hours wouldn’t work. So i came across Next step beauty they had what i wanted maincure, acrylic gel extensions, fiberglass. They have a great option to pay monthly which was a bonus for myself.

After Your Course: From Diploma to Your First Clients
Finishing your course is the start of the next step. Here’s how students go from learning to working with clients.
1. Practise on Your Models
You will practise on a training hand and on models, and photograph your work. Extensions are judged from the side as much as the top, so your case study photographs need to show the apex and the C-curve.
2. Get Your Diploma
Pass your assessed case studies and receive your diploma certificate. If an assessment needs another try, you can resubmit as many times as you need.
3. Plan Your Business
Business training is included with every course to help you set your prices, present your work and find your first clients.
4. Keep Growing
Add a technique as your client list grows. An extension client returns every three weeks for infills, which makes her the easiest person in your column to sell nail art or a new shape to.
Why Train in Nail Extensions?
Extensions carry the highest ticket price on a nail menu and the most reliable rebook. They are also the work that keeps a client with one technician rather than trying whoever is nearest.
- The Highest Price Per Set: a full set of extensions is the longest appointment and the most skilled, and it is priced accordingly.
- Infills Every Three Weeks: length grows out rather than coming off, so maintenance is built into the service and the next booking makes itself.
- Clients Stay Put: a client with a good set is reluctant to risk another technician mid-grow-out. Extension work builds a loyal column faster than polish does.
- Several Routes In: tips, forms and gel suit different hands and different appointment lengths, so you can take on work others turn away.
- Visible Advertising: length and shape get noticed and photographed, which is free marketing on someone else’s hands.
Three Ways to Add Length
Tips, forms and gel all produce an extension. They differ in how the length is created, how long the appointment takes, and what happens when it grows out.
Full Cover Tips
A pre-shaped tip sized to the nail and bonded over the whole plate, then overlaid. The fastest route to length and the easiest to keep symmetrical across ten nails.
Sculpting on a Form
A paper or reusable form fitted under the free edge, with product built straight onto it. No join, no tip, and the strength runs through the whole nail as one piece.
Builder (Hard) Gel
A firm gel taken from a pot and used to build structure and length under a lamp. Lighter on the natural nail than acrylic and gentler to sell to a nervous client.
Gel Extensions
Length built in gel over a form or tip rather than liquid and powder. No monomer odour, which matters in a home setting or a small room.
Reverse Smile Line
An inverted French built into the product rather than painted over it. A finishing technique that only looks right when the structure underneath is clean.
Tips vs Forms vs Gel
Three routes to the same length. The choice is usually about appointment time, the client’s natural nail, and how strong the set needs to be.
| Full Cover Tips | Sculpting on a Form | Gel Extensions | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How length is made | A tip is bonded on | Built on a form | Built on a form or tip in gel |
| Strength | Strong, with a join | Strongest, one piece | Good, lighter feel |
| Appointment time | Shortest | Longest | Middle |
| Skill level | Easiest to pick up | Most technical | Moderate |
| Odour | Depends on the overlay | Monomer if acrylic | Low |
| Suits | Short or bitten nails | Clients wanting real length | Thin or sensitive nails |
Most technicians offer tips and one building system and choose by the time the appointment allows. The product systems themselves sit under Acrylic Courses and Gel Courses.
Nail Extension Courses UK: Train in Tips, Forms and Gel Online
Our online nail extension courses cover the three routes to length — a full cover tip, sculpting on a form, and building in gel — along with the structure work that decides whether a set survives three weeks of real use.
Structure Is the Whole Job
An extension fails in predictable places: a flat apex that snaps under pressure, a thick free edge that catches, an uneven C-curve that looks wrong from the side even when the top looks fine. These courses spend their time on exactly that — where the strength needs to sit, how to file back to a shape that is even from every angle, and how to spot the fault in your own work from a photograph.
That is also why your case studies ask for side-on photographs. A top-down picture hides most of what an assessor needs to see.
Picking a Route
Full cover tips are the quickest and the easiest to keep symmetrical, which makes them a sensible first extension skill. Sculpting on a form is the strongest and most technical, with no join to blend and no tip to size. Builder gel and gel extensions build length under a lamp instead, which is lighter on the natural nail and avoids monomer odour entirely.
Most technicians learn tips first and add a sculpting method once their filing is consistent. The reverse smile line is a finishing technique to add after that, because it exposes any unevenness underneath.
How the Courses Work
Every technique is demonstrated on video by Victoria, our tutor, filmed close enough to see the form being fitted and the product being placed. You replay a step as often as you need while you practise. Written work and photographic case studies are assessed by a tutor who tells you what to correct, and resubmissions are unlimited at no extra cost.
There is no timetable and access does not expire. Most students finish within a few weeks to a few months, though extensions reward more practice time than most treatments — ten even nails is a different skill from one good one.
Kit and Practising
You will need forms or tips, a product system, brushes, a tip cutter and files, plus a training hand to start on. You can buy a kit alongside your course or use your own; the teaching covers how product behaves rather than one brand’s range. Move on to models once your shape is consistent, and photograph every set for your case studies. Friends and family are fine.
Accreditation
Our extension courses are accredited by ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers set their own requirements, so the certificate is what you present rather than cover in itself. Business training is included with every course. The underlying product systems have pages of their own under Acrylic Courses and Gel Courses.

Nail Extension Course FAQs
Should I Learn Tips or Sculpting First?
Tips, in most cases. Sizing and bonding a tip is easier to get even across ten nails than fitting ten forms, so you reach a presentable set sooner and build confidence on the filing.
Add sculpting once your shaping is consistent. It is stronger and better paid, but it punishes uneven filing far more obviously.
Why Do My Extensions Keep Snapping?
Almost always a flat or badly placed apex. If the thickest point of the nail is not sitting over the stress area, the whole length is relying on product thickness rather than structure, and it breaks at the first knock.
Each course works through where the apex belongs and how to check it by sighting down the nail from the free edge.
Do Extensions Ruin the Natural Nail?
Not when applied and removed properly. Damage comes from over-filing the natural plate during preparation, prising product off, or leaving a set far past its infill date so the regrowth leverages against the free edge.
Removal and infill work are taught alongside application for that reason.
How Long Does a Full Set Take Me as a Beginner?
Considerably longer than it will in six months. A first full set can take two or three hours; experienced technicians work to an hour and a half or less.
Speed comes from repetition rather than from being taught a shortcut, which is why the courses ask for several complete sets rather than one.
Can Extensions Be Taught Online?
The technique is visual and the detail is fine: how the form sits under the free edge, where the bead is placed, what the apex looks like from the side. Video filmed close in shows that better than watching over someone’s shoulder.
Your own sets are assessed from photographs, so a tutor still tells you what to correct.
Which Product System Should I Use?
Whichever suits the client in front of you. Acrylic is strongest and cheapest per set, builder gel is lighter and lamp-cured, gel extensions avoid monomer odour altogether.
The comparison table above sets the routes side by side, and the product systems have their own pages under Acrylic Courses and Gel Courses.
Are the Extension Courses Accredited?
Yes — ABT, IPHM and IGCT, and recognised by insurers including Towergate, Radius, Insync and Balens. Insurers apply their own criteria, so the certificate is the document you present to them rather than cover in itself.
